21st Birthday

     My neice turns 21 this week. She can now legally do everything she has been doing since she's been 16. (hehe).  The best thing about making cards is that one can design the card based on the receiver's personality. There is a lot of symbolism with this card. Here's a brief explanation.  I love her dearly. She's a singer in a band and she also writes her own music. Country Pop is her style. Hopefully, one day she'll be a star.  She's already a star in my book.

   I sponged the background of the rustic white panel using Pure Poppy, Berry Sorbet and Pixie Dust inks to create the gradiation.  This was the first time I tried something like this, and I am very happy with the outcome.
    The sheet music background was stamped in London Fog. I still haven't mastered the techniques of stamping off on another piece of paper first. So when I stamped it onto the card panel, the image was uneven.  I had to do it a 2nd time. I was off somewhat with my stamp placement, but I think I managed to conceal the major errors.

Another 60th Birthday Card

  Just a quick post today.  I made this card for my son to give to his dad for his birthday last Sunday.  I already had the numbers cut from my Wishblade so it was just a matter of coming up with a design and assembling it all.

   I just love Kraft with Aqua Mist & the Woodgrain IP. Makes a great masculine card. Stamping text on the numbers just adds a little pizazz since bling just doesn't work for a male!  Here's a peek at the inside.

Just in the Nick of Time for Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #146

   My neice is turning 13 on the 17th of December.  I needed to make a card that would be appealing to a teenager. I found a piece of pattern paper from the Glitter Mat Stack. I already had a stamp in mind. I just couldn't come up with a layout. I toyed with this card for the past 3 days. Tonight I decided to use the Sweet Sunday Sketch #146. You can check out the sketch here. (Sorry, I wan't able to load it on my blog.) This is my first time playing along with this group.



     This sketch took me out of my comfort zone because I rarely work with 2 pieces of pattern paper. I felt they coordianted nicely. The present is propped up on dimensionals as is the 1/4 inch strip of glittered squares  to the right of the present.  You can not tell by the photo.

      I think the glitter and bright colors would be appealing to someone who is becoming a teenager.

Masculine Birthday Card

  Every once in awhile someone enters your life who is a gift from God.  That's my son-in-law.  He is a fantastic person.  The type of man every mother wants their daughter to bring home.  There are so many words to describe him: intelligent, loving, giving, strong, considerate etc.  He's both a fantastic husband and an awesome, involved dad. Friday is his 35th birthday.  Here is the card I made for him. I used my favorite color combination for a masculine card: Kraft & Ocean Tide.

  The tag is from Pti's latest release. Decided to notch the top of the tag & wrap some twine around it. The numbers were cut out using my Wishblade.

Cute Calories Don't Count

    I recieved a birthday card with this saying earlier in the month.  Right away I knew I wanted to make a birthday card using it.  I generated it with my computer before using the Christmas Label Die from PTI. This has become one of my favorite label dies since receiving it last month.

     Since I had to have some "cutesy" sweets, I knew exactly which stamp set I was going to use: Hero Arts Cupcakes.  This is one of my favorite non PTI stamp sets.  It is one I usually reach for when making birthday cards.  I love all the cute cupcakes in this set.

     In addition to being cute, I wanted the cupcakes to be colorful. I used my copics to color.  Then I dabbled each cupcake with glue using my Zig Glue Pen before adding glitter. I used one of the decorative stamps from the Half & Half set to serve as a cupcake holder.

     

     The inside sentiment was complied from 3 of the sentiments included in this set. The little purple cupcake is from stampendous. Being an inch it is easy to cut out and put inside of birthday cards.

  This card came out exactly as I had imagined it would.  It is one of my favorites. I'll be sending it off to my sister-in-law who has a birthday at the end of this month.  Thanks for stopping by.

A New Month of Birthdays

   It's a new month and once again there are several birthdays in my family. Four to be excact. The first one to be celebrated is my mother-in-law's. She turned 89 on the first of October.  This birthday was a special one because back in June she became very sick, and we almost lost her.  Needless to say, all 8 of her children were there to celebrate along with most of her grandchildren as well as her 2 great grandchildren.
    My card wasn't original.  I cased one of Nicole's card using Harvest Berries.  Instead of using Ocean Tides, I used the new color: Autumn Rose.  My background stamp was from Tin Types.

    I made a matching tag to go with the gift .

The Last of the Purple Ladybugs

     My son asked me to make a birthday card for him to give to my granddaughter on her birthday.  Couldn't resist doing another purple ladybug card.  Except for the image from Little Lady, this one is completely different.

     The background paper is from PTI's Happy Spots.  It looks so much better in person as the color is washed out in the photo.  The background on the Mat Stack 3 was stamped with one of the stamps from Polka Dot Basic as I do not yet own the stamp set for Mat Stack 3. I loved how this card  turned out.

     My son is a jokester.  On the back of the card, he wrote Handmade by: Mike.  We all had a good laugh over that one.

A Special Card for a Special Daughter

 It's been crazy around here. September is a big month of birthdays in my family.  I have been busy making so many decorations for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday party which was held on Saturday. However, today's post showcases the card I made for my daughter's birthday which was on Saturday (Sept. 17th); the day of my granddaughter's party.

I have a great relationship with my daughter. I am so blessed as she brings so much joy into my life.  I used the new Bloom Builder 3 die.  I love the way her card turned out.  It is as beautiful as she is.

   Originally I had planned to soften the doily by sponging it with ink.  However, I didn't have a color that coordinated with any of these pinks. The sentiment is from 2011 Birthday Tags.

Masculine birthday Card

   September is going to be here shortly.  It is a month of birthdays.  Not only are my daughter & granddaughter's birthdays in September, but a nephew, uncle & brother-in-law are also turning a year older.  My nephew is the first one to celebrate his birthday in September.  Like many other crafters, creating masculine cards are difficult for me.  
  I knew I wanted to use the woodgrain IP and the sentiment from my newly acquired Think Big Favorites #7: "Birthday Wishes".  Wanting to use an image other than cupcakes, I chose the birthday present from the Make A Wish Additions stamp set.  The middle present is propped up with dimensionals

Happy 1st Birthday, Lilly!

      Today is my granddaughter's first birthday. Here she is in her party dress.



  The little bugger has begun to walk, so trying to take a photo of her remaining still is almost impossible. I did manage to get one.



    As I mentioned in the previous post, the theme of her birthday party (which was held on Saturday) was Winnie the Pooh. My daughter & I  made a happy birtday banner using her Cricut machine to cut out honey pots.



    

 Of course no party is complete without birthday hats.  Now that my other granddaughter is almost 3 she is willing to wear one. So of course no ordinary hat would do. Being the crafter that I am I made 3 hats. One for her; the others were for her 2 cousins.



     The pom poms were made out of tissue paper as was the fringe around the bottom of each hat. I used the Martha Stewart fringe scissor .

     



 The pooh face was cut out using the Cricut machine.

 

I used elastic thread secured with brads so the hats would stay on the kids' heads.

The birday girl had her own hat.    Instead of a pompom, I used a feather & netting.  

There was lace at the bottom of the hat. The number was was cut out with my Wishblade; then run through my Xyron before I added some blue glitter from Denami.  I fussy cut the Winnie the Pooh from some pattern paper and placed it at the bottom of the hat.

Surpriselingly, Lilly wore her hat.  My daughter & I figured it would be on her head less than 3 seconds.  She loved it!

       I made a card to match her hat.
